Jacques Leo was born in Lyon, France in October 1992.
From a very young age Jacques has been interested in creative expression, and he was encouraged by his parents to cultivate his passion.
At the age of thirteen he meets the one who will become his mentor: Fausto Roma. alongside to his personal study, Jacques attends the Rudolf Steiner Institute of Art, concluding his school years, at the Brera art school.
Over the years, the desire to learn and refine various techniques, leads Jacques to London, where he attends the summer courses of life painting and life drawing at the famous UAL (University of the Arts
London - Central Saint Martins).
Simultaneously with his artistic development, driven by the need to find places of cultural aggregation, he realizes, together with Andrea Zardin, a project that aims to renew the spaces of one of the most prestigious Italian cultural associations, the Milan Philological Circle of Via Clerici 10.
In 2014 he makes his first successful solo exhibition where he sells most of his works.
In 2015 he joined the prestigious “ETRO” fashion house in “the circle of poets”, a project of international resonance that brings the group of artists to perform in Milan, Paris, London and Moscow.
He also participates as an artist at the terraforma, polifonic and wakana festivals, exhibiting his work in front of thousands of people.
Between 2017 and 2018, Jacques participates, with the “carte scoperte art gallery”, at the affordable art fair milan and in 2018, together with the other 4 artists of the gallery, he won the first “best exhibition” award of the last edition.
Always in 2018, thanks to the fifty years of the etro fashion house, the work of the group “The circle of poets” is exposed at the museum of the “MUDEC” cultures of milan.
Over the years the artist’s works are increasingly impressed with a stylistic personality that make it unmistakable in the eyes of the observer.
Combining geometric lines with alchemical symbols and faces summarized in net backgrounds, Jacques Leo reveals a passionate interest in mathematics and ancient philosophies, thus giving life to sophisticated canvases, full of pathos and intense meanings.
Jacques Leo is a young emerging Italian artistww who,
since his childhood, has dedicated and still devotes his
life to the art world.
He began his career at the age of 3, drawing for a long
time the same subject that was enriched, little by little,
by significant details that underline the discoveries that
occur in a child of that age.
The material, thanks to the influential presence of the
father, was collected, photographed and filed in order to
have a linear path as regards the artistic experience of
this young artist.
The developments made are the following: the figurative
element is always present in the artist’s works and
gradually takes on more form and vitality thanks to the
continuous study and personal growth.
Philosophy, chemistry, geometry, alchemy, symbolism,
esotericism is the complex of knowledge that clearly
transpires from the works of Jacques.
Strongly fascinated by the shamanic culture, this is the
subject of the first section that we meet in this catalog.
Observing the shamanic figurative subjects of Jacques
we are immediately pervaded by a sense of ascetic
mysticism capable of transporting us in the complex
journey that the mind makes during the meditative act.
The second section we meet is that of the Mandalas,
closely linked to the third section called the Universes.
The word Mandala, in the Buddhist and Hindu
religion, represents the configuration of a space around
a “center” or a “circle” delineating in various ways the
ancient notion of totality.
The Mandalas can therefore be defined as geometric
representations of various complexities with the aim of
involving the entire Universe in the ritual act of prayer.
The presence, inside the canvases, of materials such
as hemp, soil, gold, textiles, are elements that strongly
distinguish Jacques as an artist who not only mastered
a rich knowledge about different cultures but also has
the ability to work with the material, transforming it
and integrating it perfectly within its subjects that are
figurative or not.
Jacques Leo is an artist who has been studying for a long
time, both in terms of spiritual and material knowledge.
Painting, sculpture, tailoring, woodworking, marbles,
metalworking, are just some of the activities to which
the artist demonstrates great familiarity.
Always ready to experiment with new materials coming
from Mother Nature, his goal is to bring his material
and philosophical knowledge to an ever higher level.
