Lorenzo e Simona Perrone
Biography
Lorenzo and Simona use real books on which they rage with water, glue and plaster, thus obtaining a raw material on which they intervene with various apparently foreign materials such as barbed wire, glass, stones, woods and white paint. Thus a shift of perception from the semantic to the symbolic dimension takes place: the volume is shaped and translated towards an accentuated symbolism that transforms it into sculpture.
In the end, covered in white, every book, whether cast in bronze, carved in marble or wood, becomes an Archetype, a symbol of Culture and Knowledge and screams in silence to be read otherwise. Sensitive to contemporary issues, their research evolves towards social and environmental issues.
Lorenzo Perrone was born in Milan, studied graphics and painting, graduated from the Humanitarian "Book School" and attended graphics and cinema courses at the "New School" and the "School of Visual Arts" in New York
His professional life develops in the field of graphics and communication between Milan, London and New York.
In 2000 Perrone returned definitively to youthful artistic aspirations, leaving the screamed language of advertising for the apparently silent one of sculpture.
He restarts from the two main concepts of his training: books, as a raw material, for him a symbol of saving culture and White. He begins to work on LibriBianchi, real books on which he rages with water, glue and chalk, stripping them of their written content, thus obtaining a raw material on which he intervenes with various apparently foreign materials and with white paint that transform the book into sculpture. Under the white blanket the books become archetypal of Culture and scream in silence to be read otherwise.
In 2015 with the collaboration of his wife Simona, Perrone expands its production to large installations and bronze which brings the book closer to infinite livability.
Still and always LibriBianchi, but the white of the bronzes is not absolute white, it is a patina, a reminder of a card of ancient stratifications. The artist lives and works in Milan. He collaborates with libraries, bookstores and participates in events where writing, storytelling, culture and books are supported. Appreciated by bibliophiles and collectors, his works are exhibited in numerous art galleries in Italy and abroad.
Simona was born and attended schools in Florence, where she cultivates a deep passion for beauty and nature. She trained with the humanities, but it was the family tailoring that gave her her professional imprint in Paris where she moved and expressed herself through costume and fashion to collaborate with industry magazines and international photographers.
In the mid-90s she moved to the Tuscan countryside where she is co-founder of the Hand Made Group, a small creative design and niche communication studio with foreign clients. Eclectic by nature, she manages to combine this with being the mother of three daughters, social activism, the study of yoga, sustainable projects linked to the earth, in an innovative and continuous search for a creative expression linked to ethical values that she will find his outburst in the meeting with Lorenzo and the LibriBianchi.
